Reflecting on a conflict
What was your conflict?
(For context we only had a map and a compass).
While on a trip with some friends, we could not decide which way to go, I suggested we should go one way based on what I could see on our map and they insisted on going the other way.
Describe the opposing views (without using names or any sensitive information).
As we couldn’t agree on where we were on the map they thought that our best route would be to go around, I thought we should go straight as I believed we were somewhere else on the map.
What was the other person’s reasoning or their ‘why’? What was yours?
They thought were at a different place on the map. I also thought we were in a different place on the map
How did you react, and why? (Consider your emotions and the reasons for your disagreement.)
At the time I remember feeling frustration and irritation because no one seemed to listen to me. I explained why I thought I was right but in the end, agreed to go their way.
How was the conflict resolved?
We went their way and ended up going in the circle upon looking at the map my friends realised I was right. So conflict resolved.
What was the outcome?
After some trial and error, we went the right way.
Upon reflection, how might you have responded differently?
I think I would have been more firm with my reasoning but have done so in a more calm and collected manner.
